Change Management

Implementing and managing change

We stand and watch others get it right, some of them with apparent ease. They change, implement new systems and come up with new ideas that benefit their business. What are they doing right that we aren’t? What is their successful formula? So we meet with them and ask them questions. We read books written by successful businesspeople and implement their ideas and yet we still do not get the success we desire. Why? Because there is no ‘one-formula’, no ‘one-size-fits-all’. We need to find your own formula because you know the answer to every question you will ever ask. Only you can create your winning formula.

Nothing that is worth knowing can be taught.” – Oscar Wilde

We take you through a process to find that formula, rooted in courage, consciousness and a sense of humour. There are five steps to change, whether it is personal or in business:

  1. It’s always about you
  2. Tell yourself the truth
  3. Be conscious
  4. Do something different
  5. Have fun

We work on the principle that, in order to implement change, we must focus on what is working and not what isn’t. Building on what is being done right will ensure the focus and the strength to overcome any fear of change.

Be the change – it’s always about you

“When people who are actually creating a system start to see themselves as the source of their problems, they invariably discover a new capacity to create results they truly desire.” – Senge, Scharmer, Jaworski, Flowers. Presence.

Change begins with you. We’ve all heard it said before. Shifting responsibility to other teams or divisions never resolves a problem. By having a problem with something, you are naturally a part of it and should be a part of resolving it.

Life is all about change. Change is inevitable. Every second the world changes and so it makes no sense for us not to. A company that does not change gets left behind; it becomes an entity that the world no longer relates to.

Tell yourself the truth

In order to institute change one has to take responsibility for creating your current circumstances and that can be a bitter pill to swallow. The choices of you and your management team have brought your company to where it is today. You have shaped and moulded it according to what you have seen is best suited to its changing environment.

Seeing and admitting this truth is important before you can move forward into the space you wish to be. We assist you to know the space you’re in, in order to move out of it.

Be conscious

Much of change is about breaking old patterns that are no longer serving you and your organisation. Yet seeing these patterns can be difficult when you are a part of them.

Through an interactive process as well as executive and middle management coaching, we identify these patterns and encourage alternatives to bring about beneficial change.

Do something different

“A mistake is an event the full benefit of which you have not yet turned to your advantage.” – Edwin Land, founder of Polaroid

You can never make a mistake if you choose not to see it as one. Every choice and move that you make has made you who you are today and your business what it is. If you had not made those ‘mistakes’ you would not know what you do today.

“We learn how to do something truly new only through doing it, then adjusting.” – Senge, Scharmer, Jaworski, Flowers. Presence.

Do something different without having to learn how to do it first. If it doesn’t work then try something else. All the great innovators and pioneers took this path.

Do something everyday that scares you. This is the greatest motivator to ensure that you never get stuck in a comfort zone out of fear for what awaits you. Because your dreams await you out there, not where you are now, otherwise they would not be your dreams.

Have fun

Out of chaos and confusion emerges opportunity and this is only achieved if you are able to enjoy the process. Being goalless yet purposeful in your actions assists in enjoying the process. It is not about the destination but the journey. You may never reach the goal because of your own changes or changes in your environment, which may make the goal no longer desirable. Yet by knowing and understanding your purpose and never wavering from this deep-seated knowing, you learn to see the reason for every step you and your business takes.

“I don't want to earn my living; I want to live.” - Oscar Wilde

Why Lifeology?

We have extensive experience in strategy development, change management and performance management, especially in the NGO and NPO environments. We develop ideas incorporating the dreams of the people we assist. We see those dreams and assist in finding the best solution to realise them by breaking them down into manageable pieces. We always ask life’s curious question of ‘why’ and, in doing so, awaken that question in others, because intention is more important than the words or action.
